Summary
The Export Manager is responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Export Department to meet customer needs and satisfy objectives. He or she develops procedures, establishes standards, and administers activities to assure the timely delivery of products to international destinations and effective response to customer requests. This role involves developing effective communication linkages with customers and functional areas of the firm to ensure high-level service, while coordinating all traffic functions relating to outward freight movement and minimizing costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service:
Supervise and coordinate a daily workflow among Export Coordinators. Manage new accounts by gathering necessary information and auditing coordinator responsibilities. Address complex, non-routine international customer issues.
Order Management:
Control the release of export orders to shipping to ensure timely delivery. Oversee order processing and ensure accuracy in documents such as Bills of Lading and export declarations.
Scheduling:
Supervise the scheduling of outgoing shipments for efficient resource utilization. Determine the most economical traffic patterns for global logistics and interface with operations to resolve dispatching problems.
Rates:
Evaluate and negotiate carrier rates for export lanes. Prepare rate proposals for prospective international customers.
Carrier Services:
Arrange carrier services and specify routings. Manage tracers for lost shipments and file claims for damages or overcharges. Evaluate carrier performance and ensure compliance with all government export regulations.
Labor Management:
Direct Export staff to achieve objectives. In collaboration with HR, manage hiring, training, and professional development. Implement performance evaluations and handle disciplinary actions or promotions for the export team.
Reporting:
Analyze data concerning export operations and customer requirements. Complete and distribute necessary records and reports to relevant functional areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Position supervises the entire Export Department. Expert knowledge of export job functions, international shipping regulations, and compliance is required.

Qualifications
Industry Knowledge:
Proven background in logistics coordination, distribution, and international export freight forwarding.
Skills:
Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Technical:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, G-Suite, and logistics management software.
Experience:
2–4 years of experience specifically within the Export freight forwarding industry (preferred).
Certifications:
Certificate of Dangerous Goods Training (DOT/IATA/IMDG) and Certificate of TSA Training (preferred).
Language:
High proficiency in written and spoken English for reporting and communication with global agencies.
