Grinding Operator is responsible for setting up and operating double disk grinding machines or related equipment to fabricate quality metal fasteners and parts. Reports to: Grinding Manager, Position is hourly, non-exempt.

1. Checks production schedule. Receives P.O.P.S. and instructions from group leader. Performs simple and routine setup of double disk grinders. Uses hand tools and powered hand tools. Sets machine speeds, feeds, and adjustments according to specifications. Refers to work procedure and quality standards manuals as needed. Tests machine operation, makes adjustments as needed, and performs periodic in—process inspection to check product. Obtains quality control and supervisory authorization.

2. Tends machine such as double disk surface grinder or other similar machines. Monitors blanks, lines up blanks, positions and installs replacement blanks as needed. May move finished parts into rinse tank, demagnetize, rinse, attaches to wire, marking, oil spray and packing. May stage finished products in designated area. Refers to work procedure and quality standards manuals as needed. Notifies superior of machine malfunctions or need for adjustments.

3. Maintains quality and production standards. Performs in-process inspection of blank and finished parts. May use fixed or adjustable gauges, calipers, micrometers, or parts diagram for quality check. Maintains quality records and charts. Reports quality and production problems to superiors.

4. Performs routine operator maintenance to machines. Lubricates machine, fills oil, clears away scrap or trash and changes stones.

5. Operates material (blank) handling equipment such as lift truck or pallet mover. Lifts, moves, and handles buckets of parts, pallets, and related items. Lifts and moves items following safe lifting practices.

6. Observes safety standards, follows safety rules, wears specified personal protective equipment. Maintains neat work area. Participates in safety activities.

7. Maintains records and charts related to P.O.P.S., machine operations, production, quality, etc. Reviews records and notifies superior or takes corrective action to maintain quality and production standards.

8. Recommends improvements. Participates in training. Performs other tasks as requested.
